march to (the beat of) a different drum

I simply do not have the knack to sing or play music but that doesn't stop me from dancing. I love the sound of tin drums, timbrels and drum rhythms.  I glimpsed a drumming advert associated with a yoga class connected with a whole foods recipe column via an organic gardening group promoting dye plant seeds {ha! good path}. While on that wander I subscribed to Marla Leigh Goldstein 's Frame Drum newsletter. Following her dynamic progression as artist, teacher and wellness promoter validates my sense of being all you can be.
Yesterday I had a curious sequence of presence, among them was a woman's day drumming clip included in Marla's most recent news.  Exciting to see that many women marching chanting and drumming { possibly a little intimidating to patriarchal mainstream} mind you I don't typically wind tight on gender issues but truly is an undeniable large multiple of females drumming.
More than 200 tamboreras and hundreds of dancers, they vibrate Flores Island a little while ago, on the occasion of the international day of women 2015. {apology I'm unable to embed the video assuredly worth clicking the link to see}...amazing
While listening to Marla's newsletter {audio is my kind of newsletter ha!} I busied my hands with cleaning my computer table clutter. A collection of lovely bright yellow and black feathers was among my sorted and stacked tabled accumulations...hmm curious which neighbor these came from. I do believe they are indeed as suggested a yellow shafted flicker. I found the feathers in a wooded area on my wander to see how one of my sumac stands had weathered the deer traffic over winter. As any good googler does I validated the association with sumac berries as food source to my flicker suspect.

On further googling I discovered several good read/listens of flicker "drumming" modality ...very curious coincidence developing here ....auspicious too.

I like what this excerpt has to say about flicker
As far as totems go, the “flicker demonstrates a new rhythm and cycle of growth. She shows the importance of healing love and the power of forgiveness. Insights and intuitions are activated and perceptions are changing. She teaches us how to connect with the earth and how to ground ourselves in nature with a vibrate vitality. Flicker aids in our ability to find deeper meanings and hidden qualities of patterns and coincidences. She teaches balance and harmony in the spiritual and mental realms.
Flicker shows tenacity, patience and straightforward actions to accomplish endeavors at this time. Listen carefully to Flicker medicine for she will guide in perfect timing.” (, “Animal Totems: Dictionary of Birds“)

The final in this curious sequence was an invitation to list as a harmonious artisan with Harmony Connect . Given the path I did follow through with the invitation by hammering out a profile presence with plans on attending the April social {I look forward to sharing more about this later}. Please do tour the web site time permitting.

oh and happy new moon !
